Ansonia Mantel Clocks
Ansonia mantel clocks were made by one of the most important American clock manufacturers of the nineteenth century. The Ansonia Clock Company produced millions of clocks during its time in business from 1850 to 1929. As a result, many fine examples of their work survive, made from a variety of materials such as brass, ormolu, porcelain, onyx, wood and slate.In 1844, Anson Green Phelps started the Ansonia Brass Company, which became a leader in metal importation in New York. This company formed a subsidiary and they were called the Ansonia Clock Company.
